School of Ocean and Earth Sciences

I study the effects and environmental context of ecosystem engineering throughout Earth history. Ecosystem engineers are organisms whose behaviors impact the environments around them, changing the habitability of their ecosystems for other animals. Using the fossil record, I study how the evolution of ancient ecosystem engineers impacted biodiversity and how ecosystem engineers' responses to mass extinctions influenced ecosystem resilience and recovery.
